California Tropical Storm in 1939...

Storm Ready

Living in Southern California we hardly-never deal with any tropical storms. Although we did have a severe storm back in 1939, better known as the great 1939 Long Beach Tropical Storm, El Cordonazo. This tropical cyclone hit Southern California in the month of September 1939.

El Cordonazo was the only tropical storm to make landfall in Southern California in the twentieth century. The tropical storm caused severe flooding, leaving many dead, mostly at sea, and caused about 2 million in damages. Starting on September 15, 1939 and ending in September 25th, 1939, El Cordonazo started South in the North Western Mexico area and made its way up north to Long Beach California.

Even though us Californians see sunny clear blue skies most of the time, we should never doubt a severe storm coming our way. We should always be prepared for the worst and have some reliable resources available for our family and loved ones.
